Broadway’s “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” introduced a new version of its production last November, along with a new cast. Among the fresh faces is Zachary Lindberg, a Voorhees native who has made his mark on stage and screen.

Lindberg’s journey to Broadway has been anything but conventional. Growing up, he developed an early love for theater but chose to pursue philosophy at Columbia University instead of drama. After college, he worked as a software engineer before returning to his first passion, acting.

“I was always interested in theater from when I was very small,” Lindberg recalled. “But I stepped away from it when I got to college and wanted to explore other interests. When I decided to get back into it, it felt like reuniting with an old friend.”

Lindberg’s return to acting in 2023 quickly led to success. He performed in “Prayer for the French Republic” on Broadway and appeared in regional theater productions such as “Lost in Yonkers” and “Phantom” at Walnut Street Theatre. His credits include TV roles on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and “Saturday Night Live” and the films “Breathe In” and “Good Intentions.”

His recent opportunity – a role in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” – came after an intense audition process.

“Most auditions these days start with a self-tape, but for this show, they needed more,” Lindberg explained. “Since it’s a movement-heavy production, they brought me in for a movement call, which lasted about an hour and a half. Then I had a few more rounds reading scenes. The final stage was a flying evaluation, where they put us in harnesses to perform aerial work in Brooklyn.”

A longtime fan of the “Harry Potter” series, Lindberg is thrilled to be part of the production.

“Most plays aren’t on this scale,” he observed. “It’s very cool to be part of something so immersive and unique.”
