Students at Chesterbrook Academy Preschool in Voorhees have exemplified the holiday spirit by donating nearly 40 pet supplies to the Animal Welfare Association (AWA), a local no-kill adoption and animal shelter.
Over the past few weeks, the preschoolers organized a pet supply drive, collecting essential items such as beds, blankets, toys, and food. The initiative was an opportunity for students to learn about kindness and generosity.
“These students were inspired to help their furry friends because they love them and they need help, too,” shared academy Principal Kim Cantermen.
The donated items were gathered through a donation bin set up in the school lobby, accompanied by an AWA wish list.
“We also sent out an email to students and their families encouraging them to donate to AWA to help in any way they can this holiday season,” said Assistant Principal Hailey Shaw.
When the donations were delivered to the shelter, the response was memorable, according to Canterman.
“We just dropped off our donations to the AWA today, and they were so grateful,” she recounted. “They could not believe the large box of treats, toys, food, and other supplies that were dropped off for their furry friends.
“Overall, the dropoff went fantastic,” Canterman added. “And the AWA was very grateful for our … donations during the holidays. We even got to see some furry friends roaming around the adoption center, which was so sweet.”
The preschool students and their families expressed enthusiasm for the initiative.
“One family shared that they were very excited about this giving campaign because animals are often overlooked during donations,” Shaw noted.
The children added a personal touch to their contributions by creating holiday cards and posters for the AWA staff.
“The school is looking for additional ways that we can support this community partner throughout the year,” said Cantermen.
