Lisa Witherspoon, a longtime Voorhees resident and executive officer of the Voorhees Cultural and Diversity Committee, has been confirmed as a member of the Camden County Democratic Committee.

Her nomination, submitted by attorney and fellow community leader Jacklyn Fetbroyt, marks Witherspoon’s long-standing commitment to civic engagement, local leadership and public service.

The announcement came on June 10, Primary Election Day, at committee headquarters, where Witherspoon was joined by local officials who included Mayor Jamila Odom of Chesilhurst, Janette Norcross, Sapana Raval, Alma Fogata, Barbara Barkley and Gwen DeVera, as well as county residents gathered to acknowledge their election victories and welcome new commitee members.

“I was thrilled when Jacklyn Fetbroyt called and asked me if I was interested in being nominated to the Camden County Democratic Committee,” Witherspoon recalled. “I felt ready – more than ready.”

Witherspoon’s deep political roots go back to her childhood. Raised in a politically active family, she recalls attending White House events with her aunt and uncle and sharing meals with diplomats and elected officials. That early exposure laid the foundation for her politics and civic service.

“When my husband and I moved to Voorhees 26 years ago, I naturally wanted to help out,” Witherspoon shared.

Her first formal role came in 2007, when Ann Biondia gave her a position at the polls during a local election, an important role she continued to hold through the recent election.

“I see it as my civic duty,” she said.

Witherspoon has built a remarkable resume of service within the township. Along with her work at the polls, she’s been a longtime volunteer, with more than 20 years as committee chair for the Scouts of America, and contributions to a local drama club and the Eastern High School band. With her husband, Frank, she runs The Witherspoon Group, a Philadelphia-based mortgage company.

Witherspoon’s leadership has been equally impactful within the Voorhees Cultural and Diversity Committee, which she currently serves as secretary. Through the committee, she has helped shape inclusive events such as Voorhees’ annual Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration, which draws hundreds of residents each year to Connolly Park in honor of Black history and resilience.

Witherspoon expressed deep gratitude to Fetbroyt for her mentorship and nomination.

“Voting Jacklyn Fetbroyt (Jackie) in as committeewoman was one of the best things we could have done for Voorhees,” Witherspoon noted. “She became our liaison to the township and played a very active role in the (committee).

“Jackie has the Oprah effect: She pulls you up with her.”

Witherspoon looks forward to what’s ahead.

“I will take my political experience and knowledge and contribute to the Camden County Democratic Committee,” she promised. “I will also learn from my seasoned colleagues and give the best of myself to the service of our great community.”
