Food, conversation, and a shared mission to serve the community were all on the menu onn May 15 as the Voorhees-Gibbsboro Lions Club hosted a special Dine & Donate event at Gibbsboro’s Sanremo Pizzeria and Ristorante, drawing in supporters from across the region.
The event provided was an opportunity for residents to learn more about the Lions Club’s community-focused culture as they ate. Those who couldn’t attend in person could contribute by mentioning the club’s name when ordering takeout or dining between noon and 10 p.m.
A portion of the proceeds from all qualifying orders will benefit South Jersey-based charities, including the Cathedral Kitchen.
For Lions Club Secretary Mimi Hadi, the event offered more than just fundraising: It was a moment of meaningful connection.
“What I really enjoyed the most about the dinner was getting to know the Lions members on a more personal level,” she explained. “Sometimes at other events, there’s not always time to talk. But the dinner meeting gave us the chance to really connect.”
Events like these serve multiple purposes: strengthening bonds within the club, building relationships with small businesses and funneling support to local causes. According to Hadi, the structure of the Dine & Donate night allows everyone involved to benefit.
“It’s a great way to build community connections,” she noted. “The business gets to give back, and we, in turn, can help those in need.”
That service mission is far more than just symbolic. Hadi recently received a request from Child Protective Services on behalf of a local family in need, specifically a young boy who required eyeglasses his family couldn’t afford.
“We’re working on getting him the help he needs,” she said. “Moments like that remind me of the real impact the Lions have on the people around us. It makes me truly appreciate being part of this organization.”
Proceeds from the Sanremo event will support a range of causes championed by the club, who are known for their hands-on service and compassionate outreach. To learn more about the Voorhees-Gibbsboro Lions Club or to get involved, visit its Facebook page or attend an upcoming meeting.
