The Camden County Library System is calling on the community to support personal care pantries at all its branches.
The pantries provide free and discreet access to essential hygiene and personal-care items like soap and shampoo to residents in need. Launched in 2020, they have in the past year distributed more than 14,000 items, including 4,000-pus pairs of socks, to individuals and families.
“The library has always been more than just a place to check out books, it is a pillar of our community,” said county Commissioner Melinda Kane, liaison to the library system. “This program has grown exponentially, and we are excited to now be accepting donations from our neighbors to keep this critical resource up and running.
“Please consider donating, as it can make a life-changing impact on someone in need.”
Donations must be new and unopened. The library is accepting:
- Hygiene products: Besides soap and shampoo, items sought are conditioner, body wash, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lip balm, combs, deodorant and cleansing wipes.
- Feminine care: Pads, tampons, and panty liners
- Clothing and accessories: Adult and children’s socks, gloves, rain ponchos, and hand warmers.
- Other essentials: Adult diapers, sunscreen, first-aid kits, bandages, sewing kits, hand sanitizers, tissues and lunch bags.
“We are committed to supporting the well-being of our community members and advancing the common good,” noted Linda Devlin, director of the library system. “By offering these essential items, we hope to reduce barriers and empower individuals to thrive, aligning with the library’s core value of social responsibility.”
Donations can be dropped off at the M. Allan Vogelson Branch in Voorhees, 203 Laurel Road. For more information about the program and how to contribute, visit camdencountylibrary.org.
