Deptford will host its annual senior Winter Wonderland from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Deptford Community Center gym.

“It’s great for the community,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “It’s our way of giving back to the senior community. They get to meet friends and people their age, while we get to meet a lot of people.”

The event has been held by the township for the past few years and will feature the gym decorated for the holiday season with Christmas blow-ups, crafts, winter-themed sets and more. Santa and Buddy the Elf will be in attendance, as will members of council and officers from the township police department. Music will be provided by a DJ who will also involve participants in games.

The event usually has guests singing along and tossing signs based on “The 12 Days of Christmas.” A raffle will be held and there will be a dessert bar with hot chocolate.

The township estimates a crowd of about 200 to 300. To RSVP, call (856) 845-0804 or email deptfordparksandrec@deptford-nj.org.

“The first one we held was a huge success, and they’ve been getting better with each year,” Medany said of the winter wonderland. “We’ll make up a gift bag for everyone who comes in and we’ll be giving out prizes during the event. In years past, everyone was up dancing, and it was just nice to give back to the community.”
