The Civic Hall Atrium at Camden County College welcomed local caregivers on the evening of Nov. 20 as the Camden County Board of Commissioners and the county Division of Senior and Disabled Services hosted their annual caregivers conference.

The conference provided essential resources, advice and a sense of community for those in the challenging role of caregiving. Its sessions included information on those resources as well as assisted living and social activities for loved ones, all available at resource tables.

Representatives and experts from support organizations offered guidance on elder law, including wills, trusts and the power of attorney; budgeting for caregivers; and options for assisted living and home modification to improve safety.

“Becoming a caregiver can be a complicated and daunting task, but we are here to help make it a bit easier to navigate,” Commissioner Virginia Betteridge told attendees. “Caregivers (at the annual conference) receive expert advice when it comes to taking care of a loved one, and hopefully, by the end of the conference, they will feel more confident and supported in their caregiving.”

Conference attendees also had the opportunity to network, share experiences and find solace in knowing they are not alone in their journeys.

“The tools and knowledge shared here tonight are invaluable,” noted one attendee. “It’s comforting to know there’s a community of people who understand what we’re going through and want to help.”

The conference also highlighted social activities and programs designed to enhance the quality of life for seniors and disabled individuals.
