Rowan University has partnered with Nebius, the Holland-based developer of the new artificial intelligence cloud infrastructure company (“data center”) in Vineland, to expand artificial intelligence (AI) education and workforce training in New Jersey.

Under the collaboration, Rowan and Nebius Academy, the company’s education and research division, will explore new academic and workforce development programs focused on artificial intelligence, data science, cloud computing, and related technology fields.

In alignment with New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s call for data center companies to invest in the communities they serve and help create high-quality local jobs, Rowan and Nebius are working together to expand AI education and strengthen the state’s innovation workforce.

“Our partnership with Nebius Academy strengthens our efforts to expand access to cutting-edge AI and computing education,” said Ali A. Houshmand, president of Rowan University. “By collaborating with a company operating on a global scale, we are building pathways that prepare all of our students, in all majors, for meaningful careers and help drive innovation across New Jersey, the nation, and the world.”

“Nebius Academy is proud to be working with Rowan University to help develop the next generation of AI and computing talent,” said Rachel McGalliard, director, AI Workforce Policy & Partnerships at Nebius. “We are committed to bringing long-term benefits to the communities where Nebius operates, and Rowan’s commitment to access, excellence, and community impact aligns perfectly with this. By combining our technological capabilities with Rowan’s academic leadership, we are creating opportunities that empower students and strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem.”

There has been an intense and longstanding  opposition to the Nebius data center in Vineland, led by environmental groups and neighbors. The protesters believe the center will produce environmental risks (including through a sound vibration harmful to humans), increase utility bills, and drain the water supply.

This collaboration with /Rowan and Nebius reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that New Jersey’s growing technology sector is matched by strong educational pathways, local job creation, and inclusive access to opportunity—priorities championed by Governor Sherrill and embraced by both organizations.
