With April showers and new green leaves in the rain garden, the Vineland Historical and Antiquitarian Society (VHAS) has installed an informative signboard to welcome visitors. The signboard informs as to what a rain garden is, how it works, and all about the choice of plants in the garden.
Just as Dr. Alan Mounier, archeologist at the Society and Meredith Koenig, gardener, finished the signboard installation, children of Gloria M. Sabater Elementary School, who had been studying Vineland history at the museum, arrived at the signboard to be the first readers. They took turns reading and promised to return to the garden. The VHAS rain garden is located along the Seventh Street sidewalk bordering the museum grounds between Grape and Elmer streets in Vineland.
The rain garden and the signboard were designed and installed by the Rutgers Water Resources Program in coordination with the VHAS, Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions, William Penn Foundation, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the American Littoral Society.
