Millville Woman’s Club (MWC) does not have meetings during the summer, but members were busy updating member directory, by-laws and other projects. In June “Clean Out Your Closets” gave people an opportunity to do just that and this combination donation/fundraiser event earned over $500 to support the club. Club members contributed 12 filled backpacks for Embrella, the New Jersey State Federation of Woman’s Clubs State project to support young girls maturing and transitioning out of foster care.  Members gave another 24 backpacks filled with school supplies to Holly City Success Center. Finally, in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary, MWC Chorus provided well attended patriotic concerts at Greenwich Baptist Church and other locations.

MWC resumed its monthly meetings in September with its annual Meet & Greet orientation meeting. Barbara Westog, MWC president, welcomed all members, introducing new members and prospective members.  Club officers and committee chairpersons each gave a brief synopsis of their responsibilities and an update on their projects and activities.

Members were pleased to have a presentation from Trinity First Hope Center. Donna Stiles, director, explained that the Hope Center is a faith-based organization serving those around us, describing it as a “vital outreach to an impoverished community.” For those in need, the Hope Center assists with food, shelter, clothing, access to needed services and, foremost, compassion and a sense of hope. Stiles introduced Denise Arrigo who is responsible for the center’s Clothes Closet/Thrift Center. Denise said the Clothes Closet has much more than clothing and is a good resource for clients as well as the community and provides some financial support for the center. Several club members volunteer for the center so Donna and Denise both encouraged others to do so. The Trinity First Hope Center is located at 100 S. 2nd St.; Millville.
