On January 20, Martin Luther King Day of Service, 76 Woman’s Clubs throughout New Jersey participated. Linda Green, chair of MWC Program Committee, took on the task of chairing this event for NJSFWC Southern District, which involved clubs from Absecon, Cape May, Hammonton, Millville and Vineland. The event was hosted at MWC. Green and Barbara Westog welcomed and registered participants as they arrived along with Pam McNamee, MWC president, Jane Christy and Diann Ewan.

Pat Berenato brought the donations from the Hammonton Club. Laura Badger, president of Absecon Club, along with Mary Rehr, Ann Mack and Barbara Nelson came from Absecon with their club’s donations. Barbara McClean and Marilyn Meikle arrived with donations from their Club in Cape May, and Myrna Crawford delivered donations from the Vineland Club.

MWC members Louise Jones, Jackie Andaloro, Diane Alcantara and Nancy Hammond were busy filling Backpack Care Kits with essential items for teens and young adults who are “couch surfing” or living on the streets, including information on resources for support. There were welcome baskets filled with household products for the domestic violence program. Newborn and baby essentials were collected for new and expectant parents participating in programs teaching them new skills.

In-kind donations from NJSFWC Southern District totaled $2,045. Green provided a light lunch, thanking those in attendance for their clubs’ generosity.
