The $500 grant was designed by the National Society to help DAR chapters participate and contribute to their respective communities. The members of Greenwich Tea Burning Chapter were very pleased to purchase $500 worth of books about the American Revolution for the Millville Public Library. Library Director Courtenay Reese received the book donation recently from chapter representatives Regent Valerie Kontes Baron, Vice Regent Sarah Tarpine Smith, and Chapter Treasurer Barbara Garrison Bennett. The subject matter of the books represents a broad spectrum of topics, which highlight the American Revolution and the people who lived during that struggle for freedom. Some of the book titles are: The Role of Women in the American Revolution, A Spy Called James, Forgotten Founders, Answering the Cry for Freedom, and Washington’s Spy. The books offer both young and mature readers the opportunity to learn more about democracy, reflect on our nation’s past history with the many pivotal events impacting freedom and recognize the importance and sacrifice of the diverse heritage of women, men and underrepresented patriots who contributed greatly to the success of the American Revolution.

For more information, contact the Millville Public Library, located at 210 Buck St., Millville, 856-825-7087. For information about DAR, check out the NJDAR page online or visit its Facebook page. We welcome you to find out more about Daughters of the American Revolution.
