Driven by a vision of a nation where every voice matters and decisions are made for the common good, “12 Days to Democracy” recently announced a significant multi-day march. Founded by Judy Shatkin, MD, the movement will journey from Philadelphia’s Liberty Bell Center to the National Mall in Washington, DC, from June 16 to June 28. This initiative aims to inspire active civic engagement, foster genuine connection, and collectively explore how to achieve meaningful change and strengthen our democratic foundations.

“We are marching because we believe in a democracy rooted in community and justice, in addition to love for our neighbors—where the power to govern truly comes from the people, for the people,” said Shatkin. “In these pivotal times, it’s crucial to move beyond division and work toward a future where compassion, empathy, and respect guide our actions. The ‘12 Days to Democracy’ is an invitation for everyone who yearns for justice for all and believes in the people’s power to shape the future.”

The march will commence on June 16 in Philadelphia and conclude on June 28 in Washington, DC. Each day will be an opportunity for participants to walk together, share diverse perspectives, and engage in thoughtful dialogue and community-building activities. The event seeks to embody open-mindedness and is open to all who are committed to the principles of accountable governance and a society that genuinely cherishes its diversity.

“This march is a testament to our belief that positive change is possible without conflict, and that everything doesn’t have to be a battle,” Shatkin emphasized. “It’s about reinvigorating our civic spirit, ensuring our government is responsive and prioritizes people, and collectively building a more perfect union where people, not just corporations, make the decisions that affect our lives. We want to demonstrate that a more just and joyful future is within our reach when we act together.”
