The Winslow Township Board of Education met on July 15 to approve field trips and place homeless students in the Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
Also approved was the Statement of Assurance: Emergency Virtual or Remote Instruction Plan and curriculum for 2026-’27 that includes English Language Arts, Mathematics, Business, History and Social Sciences, Science, Health and Physical Education, Visual and Performing Arts, World Language and Career Technical Education.
The board will also permit township police to use district facilities for an active shooter training program on the following Tuesdays: July 28, Aug. 4, Aug. 11 and Aug. 18.
Still awaiting approval are nursing services vendors for the school district and OOD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder) students. Among them are Bayada Home Health Care, Newborn Nurses (health-care consultants), Epic Health Services (part of Aveanna Healthcare), Star Pediatrics, Preferred Home Health Care (care options for kids) and White Glove Community Care Inc.
The board also consented to the awarding of certified substitute teacher services in the 2026-’27 school year to ESS Northeast LLC, with the option of four, one-year renewals subject to appropriations. The proposal was reviewed by an evaluation committee whose recommendation report was posted on the district website at least 48 hours prior to approval.
Approved hires for the new school year include Sharon Foth, secretary for special services; Joey Lightfoot, In-School Suspension Teacher for School No. 6; Christopher Roberson, In-School Suspension Teacher for School No. 5; and Cassidy Saunders, a fifth-grade teacher at School No. 5.
Approved staff reassignments include Joven Gilliard, who will transition from the role of secretary at School No. 6 to the same role at the high school. Chanda Tucker will transfer from her role as the high-school secretary to the same role at School No. 6.
Richard Dawkins will transition from his role as assistant principal at the high school to supervisor of Student Support Services. There were no approvals for security or fire drills noted at the time of the meeting.
The next school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
