To celebrate advancing to the Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles covered all pet adoption fees at the Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center in Gloucester Township through last Sunday.

County Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, liaison to the animal shelter, expressed gratitude for the team’s support.

“This is an incredible gesture by the Eagles,” he said. “Eliminating the cost of adoption fees will motivate people to open their hearts and their homes to a new pet. This shelter does a phenomenal job caring for so many animals in need, and to have this type of support is amazing.

“We are thrilled that the team chose our shelter for this program.”

Homeward Bound is a Blackwood nonprofit dedicated to ending animal homelessness in Camden County. Established in 1997 by the county’s board of commissioners, the center has been instrumental in reducing the stray and unwanted animal population in the community.

As an open-admission shelter, Homeward Bound accepts more than 5,000 animals each year from 18 municipalities in the county. The center’s primary objectives include providing shelter, facilitating adoptions, and offering low-cost spay/neuter services to control the pet population.

The center operates several programs that emphasize community awareness and responsible pet ownership, including the Seniors for Seniors initiative, which offers fee-waived adoptions for senior citizens who adopt pets, and the PetsForVets program that provides shelter animals to veterans at no cost.
