The Camden County Technical Schools’ FFA Organization presented the 43rd annual Southern New Jersey Student Flower Show and Competition at the Deptford Mall on Feb. 7.

The event showcased more than 100 floral arrangements and horticultural creations crafted by students from nine South Jersey high schools. Categories included bridal bouquets, boutonnieres, newborn and holiday arrangements, potted flowering plants and dish gardens.

The exhibition offered students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in floristry and botany, essential skills for careers in agriculture and horticulture. Professional florists from local businesses volunteered their time to provide feedback to students regarding their designs.

The show’s entries included:

  • Bridal bouquets and boutonnieres: Floral designs tailored for weddings showcased the students’ creativity and attention to detail.
  • Newborn and holiday arrangements: Displays celebrating new life and festive occasions.
  • Potted flowering plants: Vibrant plantings demonstrated student skills in plant care and arrangement to add a touch of nature.
  • Dish gardens: Plants arranged in shallow containers highlighted student’ creativity and understanding of plant aesthetics.

The competition judging took place early the day of the student show, with awards distributed at noon. Entries were on display through the weekend.

County Commissioner Jon Young attended the event and expressed his admiration for the students work.

“This flower show is a display of the immense talent these students have,” he said. “The work they have put into these displays is admirable, and I encourage everyone to check out these beautiful works of floral art while they are on display this weekend.”

The event also emphasized the importance of agricultural education in fostering creativity and skill development.
