Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel has been named president of the Southern New Jersey County Commissioners Association for 2025, with fellow Commissioner Tyler Burrell named treasurer.
The association is made up of elected officials from the eight counties in South Jersey – including Burlington, Camden and Gloucester – who meet monthly to share information and discuss collaborations and issues of common concern. The association is a breakout group from the statewide organization, the New Jersey Association of Counties.
Eckel and Burrell were sworn in to their posts during the first association meeting of the new year; Eckel was treasurer in 2023 and vice president last year.
“It’s an honor to be selected to lead this bipartisan group of dedicated public servants,” Eckel said. “Sharing our diverse perspectives and experiences can help us address shared goals.”
Burrell, who is in his first year as a county commissioner, is excited about being part of the association.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to meet and interact with other South Jersey leaders and learn about their county’s programs and how their counties are tackling issues that may be similar to ones facing Burlington County,” he noted.
Eckel has served on the county commissioners board since 2022 and is liaison to the Department of Resource Conservation and Parks, the Department of Public Safety, county schools and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. She also served on the Lenape Regional High School District board of ed and is a longtime active volunteer with Scouting America.
Eckel remains a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Local Government Advisory Committee, which provides independent and objective policy advice to EPA on local environmental issues.
