Blood Drive

During National Volunteer Month in April, the American Red Cross asks donors to help keep the blood supply stable by making an appointment to give blood or platelets now. Type O blood and platelets are especially needed to ensure hospitals are fully stocked with lifesaving blood products this spring.

Lenape Regional High School District – Lenape, Shawnee, Cherokee, and Seneca – invites the public to the District Choir Concert at 7 p.m., at Lenape High School Auditorium, 235 Hartford Road, Medford. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted to support the Glenn Keen Memorial Scholarship, which benefits student musicians from all four schools.

Monday, May 12

The Pinelands Garden Club of Medford meets at 9:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 2 Hartford Road, Medford. The program will be Kokedama, Poor Man’s Bonsai which can be created with a wide variety of plants.

Atsion tours

Come see one of the most significant examples of Greek Revival architecture in South Jersey! Never “modernized” with plumbing or electricity, the house stands largely as it did when it was constructed in 1826. Tours are Fridays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 1 and 2 p.m., 45-55 minutes long and begin outside between the mansion and office, 744 US 206, Shamong.

Saturday, April 26 – Free public star watch at Atsion, organized by the West Jersey Astronomical Society (WAS). Star watch begins in the Atsion Field at 8 p.m. For more information visit https://www.wasociety.us.

The Strengthening Families Program

Prevention Plus of Burlington County is offering The Strengthening Families Program, a national recognized science-based, outcome-oriented model specifically designed to build on the strengths of youth and their families to address the challenges of children and adolescents ages 7-17 and their caregivers. May 5 to June 5 – The spray operation is expected to begin for the Gypsy Moth Control Program from 5:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. No pesticide application will take place between 8-9 a.m. The Shamong Municipal Clerk may be reached at (609) 268-2377 ext. 301 for questions.

The Tabernacle Recreation Committee is seeking a Tabernacle resident who is a veteran to serve as Grand Marshall of the annual Memorial Day Parade to be held on May 24 at 10 a.m. The Committee is also looking for speakers to speak at the Memorial Day Parade ceremonies. Anyone interested in serving in these positions should contact Mark LeMire at mlemire@townshipoftabernacle-nj.gov

Shamong Township Hometown Heroes Banner Project – Shamong would like to honor their veterans. Call (609) 268-2377 ext. 304 for more information.

The Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Company serving Shamong Township, is currently conducting a sneaker recycling program. Partnering with Got Sneakers!, they will collect and recycle used sneakers and athletic shoes, and return a small donation per pair to the local fire company.

The program is fairly simple. Collect your used sneakers or athletic shoes (must be a matched pair) and drop them off at one of the following collection sites:

  • Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Company, 48 Willow Grove Road (lobby open 24/7).
  • Shamong Township Municipal Building 105 Willow Grove Road (outside the tax collector window.
  • Indian Mills Memorial School 295 Indian Mills Road (front lobby, please refer to the school newsletter for details).
  • Indian Mills Elementary School 112 Indian Mills Road (front lobby, please refer to the school newsletter for details).
  • 3DPT Physical Therapy in the Upper Crust Pizza/Wallers shopping area.

The Fire Company will handle the logistics of getting the sneakers to Got Sneakers!, who will handle recycling and will send a small donation back to the fire company for all qualifying pairs.
