Barber often looks to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts for leadership inspiration.

“The success we’ve experienced in Seneca Music is a product of the students in the music wing and my fellow teachers Rob DiLauro and Keith Styers,” Barber recently noted in a release through the Lenape Regional High School District.

And that success extends outwards to his colleagues and administrative team as well as his support staff at home including his wife, family and continuous friends and mentors.

Barber has been at Seneca High School for six years. He leads Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band, Concert Band, Orchestra, advises the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and serves as Seneca Theatre Business Manager. His deep commitment to student-centered music education has helped shape a vibrant and inclusive music community.

“… I’m feeling grateful that folks took the time to consider my efforts worth their nomination among such a powerful crew,” he said, noting many great teachers before him.

Barber said as a working musician, musical authenticity strengthens his teaching.

“I feel that my strengths in the classroom are built on the experiences I have as a musician first and foremost,” he said, “and the community’s music has allowed me to participate in give me real-world experience that students seem eager to discover for themselves.”

Barber is a saxophonist and woodwind instructor at Pinelands Music Academy in Medford, according to its website. He received a bachelor’s degree in jazz education from Rutgers University. His specialty is all level saxophone and jazz improvisation.

As a performer Barber plays frequently with a variety of jazz groups in and around Philly, South Jersey and the Shore.

Regina Karmilovich – Educational Services Professional of the Year

Karmilovich’s quiet, steady, and deeply student-centered work ethic has made her an essential
figure in the Seneca community and a model of excellence in educational support.

Senior Mattie Potter, the student she has been assigned to since he was a freshman, shared how deeply Karmilovich has shaped his Seneca experience.

“She helps me academically and socially every day,” Potter said. “I’ve been able to thrive through my four years at Seneca because of her, and I am so blessed we were paired together.”

Vice Principal Dr. Sean Cassel, who matched the two more than three years ago, praised her exceptional dedication and skill.

“Regina far exceeded every expectation,” Cassel said. “Her creativity, compassion, and the care she puts into adapting materials so Mattie can access his education make her deserving of this recognition not just this year, but year after year.”
