John W. Charon

John W. Charon, 72 (1/23/52-12/27/24) passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side. A former resident of Gloucester City, he graduated in 1970 from Gloucester High. He moved to Ocean County in 1974 residing in Bayville and Toms River.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years Donna (Rooney), sisters Marietta Lopez and Carol Charon as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Harry Sr. and Frances, two brothers Harry Jr. and Lawrence and sister Frances McNaughton.

John was a construction estimator working for many companies including his own, Charon Estimating in Toms River. He was a former parishioner of St. Luke’s R.C. Church in Toms River and a member of their Pre Cana program. More recently he was a past president and member of the Silver Ridge Park North Men’s Club. John enjoyed many sports including swimming, tennis, basketball and bowling. While in high school he lettered in track/cross country. His favorite teams were the Eagles and Phillies. He and his wife were avid movie goers.

A memorial will be held on 1/23/25 at Timothy E. Ryan Home For Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd and Rt. 37 in Toms River. A repast will follow at the Clarion Hotel, 815 Rt. 37, Toms River. I would like to add a sincere thank you for the Ennoble Care Hospice nurses and aides for their support and gentle care allowing John to continue to remain at home. Also, many thanks to the staff at The Regency Adult Day Care facility of Tom’s River.
