The apartment complex will be the setting of a pantry hosted by local food bank Your Place at the Table on July 7.

The hunger organization Your Plane at the Table (YPATT) will host a pop-up pantry and provide a free meal to those in need on Monday, July 7, at Willows at Spring Mill on Walnut Lane.

Volunteers from the food bank – based out of Trinity United Methodist Church – will not only serve food but provide a casual atmosphere for conversation with residents of the complex.

“This is our second summer doing it and we wanted to come to that,” said YPATT co-founder Kristen Skrobanek. “We figured it’d be good to come while the kids are home. There will be sandwiches, fresh fruit and snacks for the kids.

“The goal is meeting them (people in need) and getting them to the food pantry for help.”

The pantry is open two or three times a month, usually on a Friday or Sunday morning. The next pickup date is Friday, July 18, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Trinity UMC.

The pop-up pantry at Spring Mills is the second of three events YPATT is hosting. One was held last month at the Royal Oaks Apartments in Mantua. The third is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, at the Mullica Hill West Apartments on Woodstown Road.

“Our June event went really well,” said Skrobanek. “We felt getting word out for this and other events was tough, so we decided to use lawn signs to get the word out.”

She also credits the Rotary Club of Mullica Hill for helping YPATT’s efforts this summer. The club gave the food bank a grant to help it continue summer events. YPATT also partners with other community organizations and businesses, including the Harrison Township Recreation Commission, the Girl Scouts and Century Savings Bank.

The Willows at Spring Mill pop-up will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Those interested in donating can drop off food at a collection bin outside Trinity UMC, 284 Cedar Road in Mullica Hill. YPATT is currently looking for cereal, syrup, canned chicken, dehydrated potatoes, white rice, peanut butter, jelly, applesauce, baby wipes, canned fruit, specifically peaches and pineapple, canned vegetables, specifically peas, green beans and corn, shampoo, conditioner and dish soap.

Glass items cannot be accepted.
