The Harrison Township Fire District will hold its annual election on Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the township municipal building on Bridgeton Pike.
All voters registered in Harrison will vote on supporting the fire district and approving its 2026 budget. The tax rate for the district is currently 10.5 cents per $100 of assessed property value; it will go up slightly in the new budget to 11.4 cents. That will amount to an increase of about $2.60 a month for the average household.
The tax increase is due to rising utility costs and higher rates for fire hydrant rentals from NJ American Water Company. Fire district taxes pay for every hydrant in the township; utility and building maintenance costs for both volunteer fire stations; pay for 24/7 personnel; all mandatory training and fire education for staff; and fire prevention supplies for schools and daycare facilities, among other items.
“The fire district would like to thank you in advance for your support of the annual budget and for your continued support of the fire district in 2026,” said township Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Ken Powell.
