The Harrison Township Recreation Commission, in conjunction with the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners and Gloucester County Parks and Recreation, will host a free movie night at Ella Harris Park on Friday, Aug. 28, at 8 p.m..

The featured flick will be “Zootopia 2,” in which rookie-turned-star officer Judy Hopps teams up once again with clever fox Nick Wilde as they take on a new mystery that tests their partnership and challenges the harmony of Zootopia.

“Each year,” Recreation Coordinator Sharon Chew said, “each municipality gets to pick the place and the movie that gets shown from a selection the county sends out. We put in our request early to have the movie in August. We always choose an August date because we don’t have any movie showings during that month. It’s an application that they (municipalities) fill out.”

The township hosts drive-in movie nights in June and July at William Wilt Park.

Participants can bring their own chairs, snacks and drinks to the August movie night, the title of which is chosen so it’s appropriate for kids and adults to see together.

Chew has seen positive receptions to movie nights in the past.

“It’s a free event,” she explained of why the event draws residents. “With movie theaters, you have to pay for a ticket and for snacks to have for the movie. Here, the movie is free, and people are allowed to bring in their own snacks and beverages. It also utilizes Ella Harris Park, which everyone loves.”

The rain date for movie night is Saturday, Aug. 29.
