Township police joined the first statewide “Goal Zero” Thanksgiving Eve traffic-enforcement effort on Nov. 26, an initiative that was focused on preventing crashes on that day and into the early-morning hours of Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving eve is one of the highest-risk dates in the nation every year for accidents, often due to impaired and aggressive driving, according to police. The “Goal Zero” initiative was a coordinated effort among law enforcement to eliminate traffic-related deaths across the state.

In support of that goal and its own focus on keeping the community safe, township police were expected to enhance proactive traffic enforcement during the evening and overnight hours of Nov. 26 by identifying and stopping impaired drivers and deterring aggressive behaviors.

The department encourages all motorists to never drive impaired, put the phone down and stay focused, ensure seatbelts are fastened and report suspected impaired drivers by calling (856) 234-8300 or 911, as appropriate.
