Wednesday, Aug. 20

Preschool Story Time: Ages 3 to 5 years. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Join in for stories, song, and rhymes with a new theme explored every week. This story time helps kids build early literacy skills and a love of reading. Registration is required at www.mtlaurel.lib.nj.us.

Arts and Crafts for Adults with Disabilities: For ages 18 years and up. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Join the library staff for a fun arts and crafts class designed for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This class may be using materials such as clay and paint, so participants should wear appropriate clothing. Registration is required at www.mtlaurel.lib.nj.us (register participants only; no need to register caregivers). Those interested should note that the library does not provide respite care; caregivers are required to stay with adults who need them. Adults who do not require a caregiver are also welcome to attend. 

Knit & Crochet Afternoon Meetup: For ages 18 years and up. 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Like to knit or crotchet? Join this friendly group. Beginners to experts are welcome to attend. Participants must bring their own materials. No registration required.

Tai Chi for Health: For ages 18 years and up. 4 to 5 p.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Certified instructor Bob Stanton teaches tai chi, a gentle exercise that can improve muscle tone, flexibility, and coordination. This class can be done seated or standing. Registration is required at www.mtlaurel.lib.nj.us.

Thursday, Aug. 21

Tots Art Time: For ages 18 months to 3 years. 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. This event is an art class for the kids to enjoy with their parents and caregivers. Registration with a current Mount Laurel Library card is required at www.mtlaurel.lib.nj.us.

Family Movie — The BFG: For children. 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Join the library staff in the craft room for an open-door screening of The BFG (2016). The film is a fantasy-adventure that follows an orphan who befriends a benevolent giant who takes her to “Giant Country,” where they attempt to stop the man-eating giants that are invading the human world. The library’s staff will have rugs laid out on the floor, as well as chairs for seating. Participants may bring a snack. No registration required.

Friday, Aug. 22

Baby Storytime: For newborns to 18 months. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Mount Library. Join in for stories, songs, and movement. This story time helps prepare babies for early literacy skills and a love of reading. No registration required.

La Hora del Cuento en Español: For ages 2 to 5 years. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Join the library to enjoy spanish story time and learn through the imitation of songs, verses, and games while the class immerses in a new culture and language. This program will contribute to the integral development of children, cultivating the growth of imagination and meaningful exploration.

Saturday, Aug. 23

Chess Club: All ages. 2 to 3 p.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. New and experienced players are invited to the library for a game of chess. The library staff will provide chess board but participants may bring their own. No registration required.

Monday, Aug. 25

Move and Groove: For ages 18 months to 5 years. 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Join in for this weekly outdoor event where participants will be able to celebrate music through rhymes, songs, and dance-alongs. This program will give kids a chance to learn new dance moves and get active. No registration required.

Game Day: Age groups are 5 to 10 years, 10 to 13 years, and 13 to 18 years. 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Young residents are invited to get out of the heat and into the library, where the staff will have an assortment of classic board and card games available to play in the craft room. No registration required.

Toddler Story Time: For ages 18 months to 3 years. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Residents are invited for stories, songs, rhymes, and a take-home craft or coloring page as a new theme is explored every week. This story time will help kids build early literacy skills and a love of reading. No registration required. Check the library’s events calendar for updates.

Open Door Art Club: For age groups 5 to 9 years, 10 to 13 years, and 14 to 18 years. 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Residents are invited to join the library in their craft room for a low-key, unguided art program. The library will provide basic art supplies and participants can create whatever they want to in a stress and judgment-free environment. Participants may bring a piece they’re already working on, or use the library’s supplies to create a new one.

Mahjong: For ages 18 years and up. 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Mahjong is a popular tile-based game of strategy and skill. Some experience is recommended for this event. Participants may bring a National Mahjong League 2023 card and a mahjong set. No registration required.

Scrabble Club: Ages 18 years and up. 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mount Laurel Library. Beginners, experts, and all word game enthusiasts are invited to join the library staff for a fun evening. Research shows that Scrabble keeps the brain stimulated and engaged, expands vocabulary, and even improves players moods. Scrabble boards, scoring materials, and a dictionary will be provided. Participants may bring friends or make new friends at the event. Participants will play in groups of up to four people. No registration required.
