Strawbridge Lake’s self-service kayak units will be activated for use by mid-April.

Eight kayaks will be available to rent, with one unit at the east end of the lake and the other west. Both units mark the first place in Burlington County to have rental stations.

“I think it’s a great idea,” said George Gravenstine, president and board member of the Strawbridge Lake Beautification Committee. “But I like to kayak, and I really was shocked at how many people immediately asked us questions online …

“I’m thrilled people want to try it because it will generate money back into the lake over time.”

To rent a kayak, download the Rent.Fun app and create an account, scan the QR code on the locker and inspect the kayak, paddle and life jacket for any damage. Renters must always wear a lifejacket. Return the equipment to the same locker unit and select end rental in the app.

Patrons must be 18 years or older to use Rent.Fun equipment. There is a maximum of one person per boat and no pets are allowed. Do not leave valuables in the lockers. Rentals are $25 per hour.

The Beautification Committee is also gearing up for the seventh annual Moorestown Paddle Board/Kayak Race and Family Festival, which will include a 22-foot water slide, a scavenger hunt and a 10-yard duct tape cardboard boat race, for which participants will have to make their own vessel.

The festival will take place on Saturday, June 14, and is held every year to raise funds so the committee can continue its mission to improve and enhance the experience and beauty at Strawbridge Lake.

Proceeds have enabled the committee to fund an annual lake-edge cleanup as well as the installation of three permanent floating docks along the lake. The first was installed in 2021 on Haines Drive near Kings Highway, and the second – which is handicapped-accessible – was installed in September on Haines Drive between Kings Highway and Pleasant Valley Avenue. The third dock was installed this year across the Children’s Pond.

“From day one, we’ve (the committee) tried to bring attention to the lake …” Gravenstine noted. “I think people forgot that it was even there, and if people can enjoy it, that’ll bring it to the attention of the township and maybe we can improve it further.

“ … People realize, I think when they’re there, that it’s a great park.”
