Local storyteller and teacher Joe Wetterling will be your guide through the funny, heartfelt, and sometimes macabre Christmas of a century and a half ago: carols, cards, crackers and (of course) Charles Dickens at 7 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the library.

STEM for Grades 1-4: Gumdrop Shapes 4:15 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Author Talk: “A History of Philadelphia Sandwiches” 6:30 p.m. Take a bite out of Philadelphia history. Join Mike Madaio, author of the recently released book, “A History of Philadelphia Sandwiches,” in a lively discussion about the origins of your favorite sandwiches, including some myth busting and an examination of how Philadelphia became the world’s best sandwich city.

Anime Club 6:30 p.m. For grades 6-12. Come meet other anime and manga fans and enjoy all things anime/manga.

Moorestown Chess Club 7 p.m. Join fellow chess enthusiasts for casual and friendly play.

Kids Chess 10 a.m. For students in second grade and up. Join Scott Gorman or Paolo Saludades for lessons in chess rules and strategy, then pair up with an opponent to play a game or two. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

“Santa Overboard: A Miss Iodine Bell Mystery” 2 p.m. When 21 Santas set sail on an Alaskan Christmas cruise, amateur sleuth Miss Iodine Bell must untangle a tinsel-twisted mystery on the high seas. Performed with an ensemble in the classic style of old-time radio with live sound effects and vintage jingles, “Santa Overboard” offers a family-friendly hour of laughter, suspense and holiday cheer. Sponsored by the Friends of the Moorestown Library.

Historic Preservation Commission meeting 7 p.m. at town hall

The Friends Enrichment Program of Moorestown Friends Meeting is holding a free program at the Moorestown Friends Meetinghouse at 7 p.m. “Imagine That! Theatrical Improv,” with Georgeann Catanella, is all about being creative and spontaneous. Youth from ages 7 to 17 will connect through group improv games.
