“We chose Mother’s Day to have our annual 5K because the core of our mission is to support mothers undergoing treatment for breast cancer,” said Spring Williams, founder and president of Inspiring Life Together.

Inspiring Life Together – an organization dedicated to supporting moms and their families affected by breast cancer – held its annual Mother’s Day 5K run/1-mile walk at Laurel Acres Park in Mount Laurel on May 11.

“We chose Mother’s Day to have our annual 5K because the core of our mission is to support mothers undergoing treatment for breast cancer,” said Spring Williams, founder and president of Inspiring Life Together. “This is the perfect way for them to come out and walk or run if they feel well enough to do so, and if not, it allows them to see the community that is coming out in support of them, and also, for those who have had any kind of relationship or have been impacted by a woman with breast cancer.

“It allows everybody to join together on that special day.”

The event is sponsored by the New Jersey Education Association and started three years ago as a fundraising opportunity so Inspiring Life Together could continue to provide practical goods and services to mothers undergoing breast cancer treatment and their families. The first 5K run/1-mile walk had about 180 participants, while more than 350 people registered for 2025.

“It was beautiful to see moms walking or running to the finish line with their young kids,” Williams noted. “We see the community getting closer together … It’s really nice to see the sentimental messages that have been posted on social media …

“It’s very heartwarming.”

Since her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2019, Williams has witnessed how fitness and mindfulness are necessary to thrive through treatment. That realization, along with the community support Williams has received, inspired her to collaborate with others to establish Inspiring Life Together. The organization seeks to create a safe and empowering space where women undergoing treatment – as well as those in the post-treatment phase – come together to thrive.

‘As a breast-cancer survivor, going through treatment – chemo, surgery and radiation – I always felt like there had to be a purpose…” Williams recalled. “Every time we have these events, and I look out at the community and I look at the smiles and the hugs and the relationships that are made throughout our events, it just reminds me that, it indeed was not for nothing, that I went through my diagnosis.

“That there was a purpose in it.”
