The township business association’s Autumn in Moorestown event is expected to feature breweries, kids activities, crafts and food.

Autumn in Moorestown will be held on Main Street on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Guests can expect to enjoy local breweries, crafts, food, music, axe-throwing, a scavenger hunt, demonstrations and family-friendly activities.

“Autumn in Moorestown is just fun,” said event chair Kate Stefanko. “It’s early October and everybody has pumpkin spice on the brain … I think it’s just a wonderful opportunity to see what everyone is doing.”

Fall festivals can be traced back to the early settlers, who held harvest celebrations to give thanks for a successful growing season, according to www.historytimelines.co. Such festivals have evolved to include activities like pumpkin carving, hayrides, apple picking, corn mazes and making your own scarecrow.

“That is really one of those traditions that just feels very Autumn in Moorestown,” Stefanko noted of the scarecrow-making event that’s returning this year. “You get to build your own scarecrow, which is so great, and then you get them for the season.

“It’s a nice way to take home a little piece of Autumn in Moorestown, and it’s a good segway into fall and the spooky season.”

Autumn in Moorestown – one of the Moorestown Business Association’s four Main Street events – isn’t just designed to bring the community together, but also give residents a chance to get involved with their local farmer, Stefanko explained.

“ … We still have a lot of farmers and farmers markets who are very active,” she explained. “You’re going to see pumpkins and mums and it’s a great way to get involved with your local farmer and see what’s still in season and on the produce stands.”

Stefanko has been an association board member for two years. Joining the organization is not just a great way to network, she says, but to get to know people and their businesses and collaborate. Planning something like Autumn in Moorestown may be a lot of work, Stefanko adds, but it is hoped the event will be one the community enjoys. If people are happy, that’s a win in her book.

“It’s just great to get out and have these events that help you connect with your community and with the businesses in your community,” she observed. “We can start to really make some changes as a community and empower one another to do that and build Moorestown up.”
