The Thanksgiving pie judging contest has become a staple at the Moorestown Business Association’s final event of the year.

The Moorestown Business Association will host the Main Street candlelight stroll from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Main Street will be lined with luminaries and, as always, attendees can expect festivities that will include horse-drawn carriage rides, seasonal sights and sounds and a meet-and-greet with Santa.

“I feel like it’s a huge gift to the community,” said event chair Christine Dash, “and also to local businesses, because it allows for not only the community to have this beautiful holiday event in the center of town, but it also provides for new people coming into town and visiting the shops that we have on Main Street and the restaurants.”

The association was founded in 1974 by area business owners who wanted to improve the township’s business climate. It has created and managed town-wide events – including Daffodil Day and Autumn in Moorestown – that benefit both businesses and residents, as well as business-centric opportunities and initiatives to promote and grow commerce in Moorestown.

“When you see people really loving and enjoying and so many people come out and walk the streets and take part in all the mini events all around within the event (of the Main Street candlelight stroll), it all becomes well worth it,” Dash said. “That’s definitely the satisfaction, for sure.”

For the third consecutive year, the event will include a pie-judging contest in front of the Pie Lady Cafe. There will be various categories for participants, and because the candlelight stroll is so close to Thanksgiving, the contest will have that holiday as its theme. To register for the contest, check the association’s website event page for a link.

Other activities at the event will include the annual holiday ornament and the children’s coloring contest.

“I love being able to see the different take on how children really feel about the holidays,” Dash said of the contest’s “What the holidays mean to me” focus. “ … A lot of them (children) draw families gathering around a table or that sort of thing, and it’s really nice.”

Also among new offerings this year will be the Main Street scavenger hunt and a gingerbread house-making contest in the Weichert, Realtors building. To top it all off, the Moorestown High School Madrigals will perform sing-along Christmas carols.

“The horse-drawn carriages, to me, are definitely reminiscent of a yester-year type of thing,” Dash said of her favorite candlelight stroll activities. “It’s so beautiful to see the horses walking down our gorgeous Moorestown … and seeing all the historic buildings behind them.

“It’s such a beautiful look, and with the luminaries aglow, it provides such a special warmth.”
