The Rotary Club of Moorestown’s 100th anniversary celebrations will continue at the Community House on Nov. 5.
The Rotary Club of Moorestown and King’s Road Brewing Company will present a special Century of Service comedy night at the Community House on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
“It’s something that everybody seems to really love and it’s just an easy, casual, relatively inexpensive night out with lots of laughs,” said event co-chair Amy Webb. “It’s fun to see all the buzz in the room and all the laughing, and when the show is over, everyone can’t wait for the next one.”
The Rotary Club started the comedy night fundraiser in 2018 with two shows per year in spring and fall. Described by Webb as a community indoor picnic, guests are welcome to bring food to the event, while beer and seltzer will also be available for purchase from King’s Road.
Comedian Joe Conklin will be the show’s headliner and will be joined by Vince Valentine and Norm Klar. Conklin has been a constant on Philadelphia radio for decades, known for his spot-on impressions of Donald Trump; Joel Embiid; and Charles Barkley, among others. He’s worked with some of the nation’s most recognized performers, including Kevin Hart, Adam McKay, Jason Kelce and Wayne Brady.
Valentine has been performing and touring nationally since 2003 in the one-man Broadway hit, “Defending the Caveman.” The longest-running, one-person show in Broadway history has been translated into more than 50 languages and produced all over the world. Klar has opened for the likes of comedians Tim Allen, Emo Phillips and Soupy Sales and made numerous appearances in Atlantic City.
The future Community House Brewery has secured a long-term lease, according to the Patch. The business would be the first microbrewery in Moorestown history. An opening date hasn’t been determined, but the facility is targeting a 2025 opening.
The comedy night, Webb emphasized, is a chance for residents to get a look at what’s to come.
“Our show might be sort of a sneak-peek opportunity for people to see King’s Road Brewery in action in the Community House,” she explained. “(It’s) a very cool, relaxed, fun, vibrant atmosphere.”
Rotary International members have acted on sustainable projects for more than 100 years. Moorestown Rotary has a sense of community, Webb noted, with members who are philanthropically inclined, and its weekly meetings are where friendships are established.
“It goes beyond networking, per se,” she offered. “You really establish some nice friendships through Rotary, between the weekly meetings, working on different events and volunteering.”
Doors at the comedy night and a cash bar will open at 6:30 p.m.; the show will start at 7:30.
