Union Fire Company No. 1 and the Taunton Volunteer Fire Company earned first-place awards at the 50th anniversary of the New Jersey State Firefighters Convention in Wildwood on Sept. 13.
Union company members were rewarded for work done on two of their vehicles. The department’s 1935 Ford won first place for the Best Appearing Antique from the 1930s, and Tanker 2516 took first place in the Best Appearing and Equipped Tanker category.
“Over the years, our company has participated in many of the parades and earned many awards,” the company said in a Facebook post. “(The convention) awards were extra special for the members who dedicated hours of their time to prepare the apparatus, while still responding to numerous incidents.”
In the post, the Union company congratulated the Taunton company for placing first in the category of Best Appearing Antique from the 1940s, specifically its 1946 Willy’s Jeep pumper. It was the first piece of equipment owned by the Lakes/Taunton volunteer company.
