A 45-year-old Burlington City man employed at a Medford Township care facility that provides services to adults with disabilities has been charged with abusing a patient under his care, according to Burlington County Prosectuor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Medford Township Police Department Officer-in-Charge Captain William Dunleavy.

Fuller P. Williams was charged with endangering the welfare of a disabled adult in the third degree and simple assault, a disorderly persons offense. He was taken into custody July 29 and later released following an appearance in Superior Court in Mount Holly, according to a press release through the prosecutor’s office on Aug. 22.

The investigation began earlier this summer after officers from Medford police were called to the Friends of Cyrus Adult Day Services Program in the first block of White Birch Trail for a report of a suspected abuse to a resident.

The investigation determined that Williams beat the autistic, adult male victim with a thin cord, causing multiple injuries and welts to his back and buttocks. The injuries were discovered by other staff members of the facility, who contacted law enforcement authorities to report the abuse, the press release stated.

The investigation was conducted by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Medford Township Police Department with assistance from the City of Burlington Police Department.
