Samaritan hosted its 36th annual Drive FORE! A Good Cause golf tournament, presented by The Richardson Family Dealerships, at the Little Mill Country Club in Marlton on Sept. 28, raising a record-breaking total of $246,000.00.

“Many of our volunteers, trustees, and committee members – as well as sponsors and golfers – have a personal experience with Samaritan, meaning we cared for a family member,” said Chris Rollins, Chief Development Officer at Samaritan. “Their coming together in the spirit of gratitude and giving is a powerful thing to be a part of, and we are grateful for their continued support.”

The annual fundraising event brings together community leaders, businesses and friends to support the organization’s comprehensive family of services, which provide compassionate care to seriously ill patients, their loved ones and those grieving a loss. Co-chairs and life-long friends Roy Fazio and Cliff Mancine have helped lead the event for 30-plus years.

“While we’ve co-chaired the event for a long time, we’ve welcomed many new and younger volunteers, whose enthusiasm and fresh ideas make the outing bigger and better year after year,” Mancine said.

Fazio and Mancine initially met in the Kingston Estates in Cherry Hill. Fazio was involved with Samaritan when it first started in 1980, and he has been on the organization’s board since about 1983. Over the years, he has served on the executive committee, the strategic planning committee and the development committee. He introduced Mancine to Samaritan when his mother needed services years ago.

“Samaritan is like family,” Mancine said. “We know we’re caring for friends and neighbors. Being able to help ensure that (that) continues is rewarding. While we’ve co-chaired the event for a long time, we’ve welcomed many new and younger volunteers, whose enthusiasm and fresh ideas make the outing bigger and better year after year.”

Samaritan was locally founded in Moorestown in 1980 as one of the first hospices in the country. It is now one of the state’s leading providers of palliative medicine, hospice care, social connections, grief support, advanced illness care, education and advocacy. The nonprofit services provide patients and families in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer counties who are coping with the stresses of aging, serious illness or grief wherever they call home.
