Township honors retiring staffer Monica Vandenberg

After more than two decades of dedicated service, Evesham Township recently announced the retirement of longtime staffer Monica Vandenberg.

The township resident began working for Evesham in 2002, and most recently served as supervisor of resident services. Through the years, Vandenberg has provided vital services to the community, including management of the Gibson House Community Center, where she has helped serve residents, community groups and local businesses.

Township council took time at its February meeting to honor Vandenberg’s impact and celebrate the beginning of her new chapter. Former Evesham councilman Ken D’Andrea, members of the township’s Disability and Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, the business and twinning associations, the senior citizen club and Township Manager Walt Miller all spoke to Vandenberg’s reliability and knowledge.

“I’m so humbled with the kind words, gestures, and appreciation,” she said. “It really has been a privilege to serve the community and I’ve gotten so much satisfaction from that. That in itself made it worth it to me.”

Vandenberg has also been heavily involved in the planning and execution of many township events, including large community celebrations such as the annual Fourth of July festivities and Harvest Fest. She has also been key to managing services for the township’s senior population, including a transportation program and work with the Marlton Senior Citizen Club.

In recent years, Vandenberg has also provided oversight for programs that benefit veteran residents and residents who experience disabilities. At various points in her tenure, Vandenberg was involved with the Triple A Summer Camp program, general recreation programs, township communications work, business ribbon-cuttings and other public events.

Vandenberg was also liaison to the township’s many community groups and committees.

“My husband and I have lived here for many years, raised our children here,” she stated. “When I began to work here, it just made it even more complete knowing what a community we have here. There’s an expression, ‘When you give, you receive,’ and I truly live by that.

“I hope for continued success for Evesham Township and thank you again for all the acknowledgment.”
