Triple Threat Theater Productions (TTTP), a nonprofit whose mission is to transform lives and communities through excellent theater education, will host their end of summer celebration at Sovereign Grace Church in Marlton on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m.
“It’s a breath of fresh air seeing kids become their best selves when they’re on stage, growing their confidence and getting excited, reuniting with old friends… It’s a unique experience,” said co-founder and artistic director, Andy Boettcher.
Earlier this summer, TTTP collaborated with the South Jersey Pops Orchestra for performances of Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Following that, the organization jumped into their busiest and most exciting season of the year, their summer season. Close to 500 students participated in the summer programs, putting on shows ranging from 30-minutes to an hour long. Some shows spanned up to three weeks, and the whole season was a highlight not only for the students but also the families.
“It’s always a blast, and it’s been a privilege, as always, working with the kids and building warm, fun, safe environments, and having such a profound impact on so many is really exciting,” Boettcher said. “It’s been very validating for me personally as a director knowing that we can put together shows of high quality at any level, whether that is with small children to high school students to adults … Not only can we put together great performances, but we can also build great community wherever we are.”
The end of summer celebration will feature live performances by theater staff, reprise shows from the summer camp casts and an announcement on the company’s upcoming performance season for winter, spring and summer. Now in its fifth year, the event is just one of the ways that TTTP can celebrate who they are, Boettcher said, but there’s also other reasons to want to come.
“You will be able to see outstanding adult artists perform,” Boettcher noted. “You’ll also be able to see the way that our kids perform, so if you’re coming in and you’re curious and your (child) likes theater…you can see kids their own age […] not only performing but doing it with excellence and doing it with joy. It’s very infectious.”
Also on the horizon, TTTP will be hosting monthly workshops with theater professionals throughout the fall and school season. Discussions will include the business of theater, how actors live and find work in the profession, and the types of skills that young actors should be working on, as they prepare to enter the field. There will be a small participation fee; however, anyone is welcome to join. With the fall and winter seasons fast approaching, Boettcher is looking forward to fantastic performances and developing long-term relationships with the students and getting to see them grow and learn, building a larger and longer lasting community.
“I am very proud of how hard we work to make theater accessible to everyone,” Boettcher said. “Triple Threat is extremely unique in its approach to theater. Triple Threat does not thrive on hierarchy or exclusivity; it thrives on inclusivity and accessibility. Every single person matters. Every single person is important. Every single person is essential to telling our story.
