Mantua will once again host a shredding event at the rear of the administration building on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event is open to Gloucester County residents only, who will be able to get rid of potentially compromising documents such as bank statements.

“It’s a great opportunity for residents to rid themselves of confidential paper documents in a safe, secure and convenient manner,” said Mayor Robert Zimmerman. “As a former police chief, I can’t emphasize enough the importance of properly destroying documents with confidential information such as bank and credit card statements; old checks; loan documents; tax returns; and insurance documents, to name a few.”

A commercial-grade truck will do the shredding. Residents will drive up, hand off documents and witness them being disposed of with help from the public works department and township committee members. The service is paid for with recycling grants and there is no expense to local taxpayers.

“This initiative helps to prevent against identity theft and other crime, and at the same time, encourages responsible recycling and keeps our community clean,” Zimmerman explained.

Residents are asked to bring only paper documents for shredding. While paper clips and staples are acceptable, plastic, cardboard, plastic bags or binder clips cannot be shredded by the township truck.

The event is the last for shredding in 2025; two more will be scheduled in the spring and fall of 2026.
