At its first meeting since the start of school on Sept. 4, the Mantua board of education introduced its newest staff members and discussed how the first days of class went.
About a dozen new staffers, special education specialists, nurses, social workers and more were introduced by meeting speakers. They included Centre City Elementary School Principal Jennifer Cavalieri, J. Mason Tomlin Elementary School Principal Christine Connelly, Tomlin Vice Principal of Early Childhood Sherlon Jackson and district Director of Special Services Stephanie Logan.
Each talked about their background, their educations and what their jobs will be in the new year. They will start at various times in the coming days and weeks.
“Grace is particularly excited to join Mantua Township School District, as she was born and raised here in Mantua,” said Logan of Grace Porter, a new social worker on the child studies team. “She shares that she feels like she is returning to her roots and looks forward to continuing her professional growth as a social worker, while serving the students and families in our district.”
Superintendent Christine Trampe addressed the new employees after they were introduced.
“Welcome to Mantua Township School District,” she said. “We’re very excited to see you. We appreciate you coming this evening.”
Later in the meeting, Trampe provided an update on the first few days of school in the 2025-’26 year.
“We had an extremely successful opening to our school year,” she reported. “This (Sept. 8) was our third day of school. We had our typical little glitch that will typically happen the first day with some buses. But once the kinks got worked out with Clearview, the next day they got worked on as well. So, we had a beautiful opening to the school year.”
Trampe also announced that the district will begin implementation of the board’s five-year strategic plan, approved at a prior meeting. Details were not shared at the board session, but 2025-’26 will mark the plan’s first year.
The next Mantua board of ed meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, at Centre City Elementary.
