Pair charged in child sex assault

A 46-year-old male and a 44-year-old woman who are both Mantua residents have been charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child after a minor reported on Dec. 14 that the two had allegedly abused her between 2018 and 2020, police said.

Michael Brown was charged with third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree sexual assault of a minor between the ages of 13 and 16 and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact of a minor, according to police. Valerie Brown faces charges of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child and tampering with evidence.

The investigation was conducted by township police in collaboration with the West Deptford and Woodbury police departments. Anyone who believes they may be a victim or who has information on the case is urged to contact Det. Cpl. l Jeff Krieger at jkrieger@mantuatownship.com.
