Mantua has received state funding for a number of items in schools and the community.
The township will get a total of $800,000 in funding for the Clearview Regional School District – which also includes Mullica Hill – and a recreational grant totaling $50,000. Mantua will also receive $2.8 million in New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) funding to help with the reconfiguration of the Bridgeton Pike and Mount Royal Road intersection.
The funding is the result of a call state Sen. John Burzichelli made to Mayor Robert Zimmerman on July 11.
“These additional monies recently referenced by Sen. Burzichelli will help to offset other expenses and contribute one way or another to off-setting tax dollars at our municipal- or school-district levels,” said Zimmerman.
The call came after Mantua lost state school aid and state and federal grants. Mantua, Clearview and the former’s K-6 districts also saw a reduction in state aid.
“At the municipal level, we lost about $130,000 in state aid this year, and had a reduction of about $130,000 in state and federal grants that adversely impacted our 2025 municipal budget,” Zimmerman explained.
“In March, the Department of Education announced that only five school districts in Gloucester County would see a reduction in state aid for the coming school year, and two of the district service our community: the Clearview Regional and Mantua K-6 school districts.”
Burzichelli was unable to get funding for the latter district, but the township will do what it can. Zimmerman announced the news of the funding received at the Mantua committee meeting on July 14, something for which other committee members were thankful.
“The township committee and I want to thank our Third District legislators, Sen. Burzichelli, Assemblywoman (Heather) Simmons and Assemblyman (David) Bailey, for supporting our residents and for looking out for Mantua’s best interests,” he said.
