The wrestling organizations of Clearview Middle and High School – as well as Clearview Junior Wrestling – will host a golf outing on Monday, Sept. 29, at Pitman Golf Course.
Registrations will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a putting contest at 11:30. A shotgun start will begin at noon.
The event aims to bring together both current Clearview wrestlers at all levels and program alumni.
“It’s something I did when I was coaching in college,” said junior wrestling head coach James Rollins. “We would bring alumni together for events and I figured we try it for Clearview. We’re looking to build up our community and bring our alumni together.”
Previous golf outings featured alums who were with Clearview in the 1970s, according to Rollins, then introduced their own kids to wrestling.
Awards will be go to the winners of each contest and the person who gets a hole in one on the 165-yard hole 13; hits the longest drive; and wins a contest to get the ball closest to a pin.
A banquet will be held after golf; anyone who wants to participate only in that event can buy a separate ticket. The banquet will also include a basket auction provided by local businesses and, according to Rollins, groups around the country.
All proceeds from the golf outing will support the Clearview wrestling program. Anyone who was part of a past team can attend. Along with on-site registration, participants can register in advance online at cheddarup.com, where anyone who wants to be a sponsor can also find information.
“We’re continuing to make this something to mark on the calendar,” said Rollins. “I think diving into celebrating our alumni and the growth of women in wrestling is important. The event is something worth having.”
