The Sewell (Mantua portion) Raildogs 10U and 12U teams were honored by the township committee on Oct. 20 for winning the USA Softball League state championships.

The two teams each won their respective championships over the summer after competing against teams from across the state in a tournament, the first time each won its respective title.

The players and coaches of both teams were in attendance for the meeting, a packed house filled with friends and family.

“Thank you to the township for their support,” said 12U Coach Kristy Green. “We have over 300 kids in our organization and you guys come out every day to help us. When we call, when we need a new road paved, you guys come and help do that. The town has been nothing but supportive of our organization.

“We’re happy to be where we are, to represent this community and we’re happy we did it so well this year,” she added. “We’re going to keep doing that.”

Each team was honored separately, with players and coaches receiving certificates with a township proclamation that recognized the achievement.

“We’re thrilled that you (the teams) obtained this gold,” noted Mayor Robert Zimmerman. “It probably doesn’t happen all too often. This is an amazing feat and we don’t get these too often. This is as much fun for us, to be able to recognize these kids in our community.

“Congratulations to each and every one of you, great job and hopefully, in 2026, we’ll bring it back again.”

The next township committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m.
