Guest gathered at the Mantua VFW for last year’s beef and beer hosted by the Mantua Little League. About $3,500 was raised to pay league operational costs.
The Mantua Little League will host its annual beef and beer fundraiser at the Mantua VFW on Saturday, April 25, to raise money for the baseball program.
“This is the second one that we’re doing,” said league president Jack Steen. “It’s a big fundraiser we’ve started doing in the spring. It’s simple – we do gift baskets for people and get food catered from Santini’s.”
Tickets can be purchased on ticketleap.com and include a meal, beer and live music. According to Steen, gift baskets for the event’s raffle come from league parents as well as local businesses.
“Last year’s event went really well,” Steen noted. “We had around 80 to 100 people max, due to the limits of the VFW. We’re hoping for more of the same this year.”
Last year’s event raised about $3,500, he added. The money will help the league maintain and upgrade the James R. Bobbitt Little League Complex, where there are five fields for baseball, softball and T-ball. The proceeds also keep the league from having to increase the cost of program registration.
Along with fundraisers like the beef and beer, the league has partnerships with local businesses, including Sugar Fix Cookies, which will provide personalized baseball and softball cookies for the league’s opening day on Saturday, April 11.
“We’re trying to get a scoreboard for the softball team,” Steen explained. “It (the funds) goes toward our operational budget. The last thing we want to do is raise registration costs for people. So we hold these events to avoid having to do that.”
The beef and beer will begin at 6 p.m.
