The NJ MasterChorale will present two versions of its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 8 in the Haddonfield United Methodist Church sanctuary.
A shortened version of the free program for families with young children will take place at 3 p.m. and include familiar Christmas carols and light classical pieces. The abbreviated program will feature narration and include interactive musical activities for all ages.
The free full program will be presented at 7 p.m. and be accompanied by organist Matt Smith and members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. The evening performance will feature Elaine Hagenberg’s piece, “Illuminare,” which is based on religious texts about light and is one of the most performed choral selections in the country.
The evening will also feature movements from the “Weihnachtsoratorium” by Baroque composer Carl Heinrich Graun. It also centers on the theme of light using Biblical and chorale texts and freely composed verse. Solo movements will be sung by soloists from Westminster Choir College and the Academy of Vocal Arts.
Tickets are not required for the abbreviated program. Tickets for the full program should be reserved ahead of time online at haddonfieldumc.org/nj-masterchorale.
