Students from across Haddonfield put their spelling skills to the test in the annual Haddon Fortnightly Spelling Bee on Jan. 30.

A number of area students participated in the 2025 Haddon Fortnightly Spelling Bee held at the Fortnightly Clubhouse on Jan. 30.

Students from Central, Elizabeth Haddon and Tatem public elementary schools, as well as Haddonfield Friends School and Christ the King School, participated this year. Families of the participants were invited to witness the bee, and the students competed in front of a full house of supporters.

After 18 nail-biting rounds, the winning word was “university.”

The winners are:

  • First place: Robbie Abella, Elizabeth Haddon School
  • Second place: Lilia Mensah, Haddonfield Friends School
  • Third place: Rohan Khwaja, Central School
  • Alternate: Jessica Steward, Central School

The top three winners will go on to compete at the Garden District Spelling Bee on Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Fortnightly. Registration is at 1 p.m. and the bee will begin promptly at 2 p.m. Should one of the top three winners be unable to attend, the alternate will take their place.
