At the Oct. 10 Board of Education meeting, Inez Serrano was approved as the new assistant principal for Student Achievement at Haddonfield Memorial High School (HMHS), beginning December 2024.

Currently the grade 5 to 8 Supervisor of Math and Science in the Montgomery Township School  District, Serrano brings 10 years of teaching and administrative experience to Haddonfield. She was selected from over 40 applicants and participated in four rounds of interviews, including teachers, administrators and students.

A graduate of Rutgers University, Serrano earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Cincinnati. She taught high school math in Hamilton Township and  Montgomery Township before accepting a job as assistant principal of Timber Creek Regional High School in Sicklerville. Then she returned to the Montgomery Township School District.

Serrano’s administrative responsibilities included classroom observations, chairing academic  committees, analyzing student data, evaluating systems and programs to make improvements,  and producing professional development plans.

“We are excited to welcome Inez because of her proven track record of improving student  performance through data-driven strategies and her ability to foster strong relationships with  both staff and students,” said Tammy McHale, the HMHS principal. “Her leadership skills and  dedication to creating an inclusive learning environment made her the ideal choice for  enhancing academic success.”

Serrano considers good communication and positive relationships to be essential to her role as a school administrator.

“A key to being a great educator and administrator is opening the gateway of communication and finding the appropriate balance in motivating each individual student and encouraging their growth,” she said. “Students need to feel that we protect them, consider them and advocate for  them. When we create an atmosphere of trust and communication, students feel confident  knowing that adults believe in them and will assist them.”

Born in Philadelphia and raised in South Jersey, Serrano lives in Voorhees with her significant  other, baby boy and dog. She is passionate about all things Philly sports and enjoys spending  time with friends and family.
