“Witches” will paddle board, kayak, canoe or use any other flotation device around Lower Aetna Lake on Sunday, Oct. 26.

Inspired by the witches of Oregon, the Medford Lakes Lions Witches Paddle fundraiser is an event that celebrates Halloween witches everywhere.

“Witches” will paddle board, kayak, canoe or use any other flotation device around Lower Aetna Lake on Oct. 26. The event is in its sixth year, with 75 plus paddlers already signed up, according to Brenda Allen. Hours are 2 to 6 p.m. at Beach 1, by Vaughan Hall in Medford Lakes. A group paddle will start at 4:15 p.m., but participants can paddle out on the lake anytime.

Registration includes digital photographs of the event, music, a witch parade, access to Medford Lakes’ private beach, vendors, swag and food. Proceeds benefit the Medford Lakes Lions Club’s efforts in the community and the buildings and properties that support them.

The Lions club is made up of service-minded volunteers who want to improve their communities. Some of the ways they do that include Recycle for Sight, which helps people access both eyecare and eyewear; Cabulance and Medical/Mobility Equipment service, which provides relatives, friends and neighbors with non-emergency, ambulatory transportation to and from doctor’s visits; and the Walter Cavanaugh Food Pantry, which is open the third Saturday of each month to provide canned goods, household needs and personal care items to needy families in the township.
