The Moorestown Education Foundation’s (MEF) 31st annual golf outing will be held at the Riverton Country Club in Cinnaminson on Monday, Oct. 19. Community support of the MEF’s primary fundraiser directly impacts programs and resources that the nonprofit provides.
“The education our students receive is excellent (and) it provides for great outcomes for our students,” said MEF President David Weinstein. “It allows them to go where they want to go whether that is to get an associate’s degree, go to a four year institution, go (in)to the military, or just to go out and be employed.”
The golf outing’s format is a team scramble. Awards will be given to first, second and third place teams and on-course contest winners. Contest categories include longest drive; closest to the pin; straightest drive; and hole-in-one. Player registration and the driving range open at 10:30 a.m. Shotgun start and tournament play will begin at noon, followed by a reception at 4 p.m. and a silent auction and the awards ceremony at 5:30.
A big draw for parents of seniors is a chance to win reserved seating for graduation through the auction. Ways to get involved or participate with the outing include sponsorships and golfer registration, auction item donations or volunteering.
“The (MEF) is here to provide opportunities to our educators to provide better student outcomes,” Weinstein said. “We’re here to help make our education system better by providing those outcomes, by funding those outcomes … The golf outing itself allows us to provide for the grants and other funding that the MEF provides to our students and to our community …
“You get together with not only your neighbors and friends, but the members of the school administration. It gets you in an enjoyable setting to spend some time and know that you’re supporting a wonderful cause such as the MEF.”
Since 1987, the MEF has been raising funds in support of the township’s public schools. The organization believes that a strong education is the foundation of a vibrant community. Part of its mission is to enlist and encourage the support and cooperation of the school district, community groups, residents and other organizations in the improvement of the education of the students.
The MEF offers two primary types of grants: excellence in education mini grants and general grants. Excellence in education mini grants are awarded to district staff to fund innovative educational opportunities for requests up to $5,000. General grants fund broader district-wide or school-wide projects or initiatives that are focused on providing seed or exploratory funding for innovative, educational opportunities.
“Whatever they (the students) choose to do, the Moorestown education system has provided them with the foundation they need to be able to be successful, and that’s what I find to be wonderful about our educational system and that’s what I find enjoying about the MEF, is allowing to give a little bit more, something special,” Weinstein said.
