Plans have spanned years to replace the county Mill Street Bridge over the South branch of the Rancocas Creek in the Vincentown section of Southampton Township, between Red Lion Road and Main Street.

The work is currently in the preliminary design phase. Residents will get a chance to find out the status of the long-awaited project when the county – in cooperation with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) – holds an in-person public information session on Thursday, Feb. 12, to reintroduce the public and or stakeholders to the project.

The single-span steel stringer bridge has a reinforced concrete deck, according to county information. It was originally built in 1918, and replacement is critical due to erosion around its supports. An estimated 7,000 vehicles cross it daily.

An initial meeting on the concept development of the bridge replacement was held in 2022, with Michael Baker International as the consultant. At the Feb. 12 session, engineer Mahmoud Djindjiev of Greenman-Pederson Inc. in Bridgewater will lead the presentation.

The open public meeting will also offer project information such as the existing conditions and the proposed project plan, along with proposed traffic control during construction. Residents can offer comments on the project that will be included as part of the official record through Friday, Feb. 27.

Following the earlier meeting at Southampton town hall at 6 p.m., the presentation will be posed and shared via the county and the Southampton Township website or social media pages.
