Police are investigating a fatal head-on collision at the intersection of West Piney Hollow and Jackson roads on March 6.

The incident occurred at 6:37 a.m., when a 41-year-old Vineland woman in a Nissan entered the westbound lane traveling toward the intersection, an investigation revealed. A 34-year-old man in a Toyota was traveling in the same direction as he approached the intersection. Near Jackson Road, the Nissan at some point crossed the center of the roadway, causing the head-on crash.

The woman had to be extricated from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured man was transported to Cooper Hospital, police said. Both drivers’ seatbelts were off, and the investigation “suggests that speed may have been a factor in the collision.”

Monroe Township police were assisted at the scene by the Cecil, Williamstown and Collings Lakes fire departments, county EMS, Atlantic Care Paramedics, the county medical examiner and A-JACKS Towing and Recovery.
